Dr. Carl Ade joined the Kansas State University faculty in 2013, and has since contributed significantly to the College of Health and Human Sciences through physiological research and instruction. His personal research focuses primarily on understanding the physiological mechanisms of the cardiovascular system throughout the continuum of cancer survivorship, but his multidisciplinary approach has also led to research endeavors in the contexts of spaceflight, high-performance athletics, heart failure, peripheral artery disease, and more. These interests also include the development of diagnostic and prognostic frameworks in clinical disease. Dr. Ade’s work has been cited over 1500 times since 2008, and has led to funding support from sources such as NASA and the Johnson Cancer Research Center. This work has also afforded opportunities to present at national meetings of the American Heart Association, the American Physiological Society, and the American College of Sports Medicine. As a member of the Kansas State University and Stormont Vail Health Research Collaboration, his focus is contributing to the overall mission to promote partnerships between researchers and healthcare professionals that drive further understanding of health and disease in Kansas and worldwide.

Ramasamy (Sakthi) Sakthivel, Development Director with the K-State Office of Research Development comes to this role with several years of experience in both academic and biotech. He has an extensive scientific background in biology, biomedical engineering, and clinical trials He was successful in obtaining several grants from the Federal and State funding programs to support both academic and start-up biotech’s developing new projects, programs, products, and early-stage clinical trials. Sakthi has generated several Intellectual Property (IP) filings, identified technologies from the university for licensing options, and has experience working and collaborating with clinicians. Sakthi received his Ph.D. degree from Madras University, India, and MBA degree in healthcare management from Weatherhead School of Management at the Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.

Alexandria (Ali) Zakrzewski, PhD

Ali Zakrzewski coordinates and manages research projects with principal investigators (researchers and healthcare professionals), working with teams to obtain successful project outcomes. She has twenty years of experience submitting and revising research protocols and maintaining compliance with various institutions (academic, military, and healthcare). Her doctorate is in Cognitive Psychology from the University at Buffalo (State University of New York). Before joining Stormont Vail, she served as Cognitive Neuroscience Core Director of Kansas State University’s Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), Cognitive and Neurobiological Approaches to Plasticity (CNAP). During that time, she worked closely with researchers collecting neuroimaging and behavioral data to publish and obtain external grants (e.g., NIH, NSF, CDC). As Clinical Research Program Manager at Stormont Vail in Manhattan, Ali aims to support and develop the Clinical Research Collaborative with Kansas State University.
